so i had my 6 month review yesterday.

i know make slightly more than minimum wage! and in a week when you are griping about the 9cent average increase per cup of coffee, remember that your 9cents makes my raise possible!

saw it on the 5 coming south from the Huntington Gardens. twas on a white car. the gardens twere fabulous. pictures shall, i think, be posted in the dry was once they are developed.

in other news, Norbert the Flying Tortoise returned from the hospital today.

Many of you may not know Norbert was in the hospital, indeed fewer of you probably even know who Norbert is. (try the math on that one... it's fun)

Well, Norbert (the Flying Tortoise) is a Silver 95(?) Buick Century. He drives like a land-bound boat (or purchance like a flying tortoise), and a hole in his muffler makes him sound very manly, in the 'i've smoked more years than i've had lungs' sort of way. his most spifftacular qualities are a working keychain-klicker thing that un/locks the doors and pops the trunk, a working radio, and three working electric windows. He was acquired after the eternal loss of Edmund the Rat Trap. Edmund died in the line of duty on the 26th of May 2007. He is dearly missed.

Norbert, after roughly 100 miles, and not quite a full week, filed for a leave of absence. He returned today, with a new battery.

Hopefully this one lasts longer than the last.

oh. and thedrywash.wordpress.com is now something of an alternate location for my cyberblather. the fundamental difference betwixt this one and that one is that there i shall make attempts at propper spelling and the use of capitalization.

So. this girl walked into starbucks today and asked for a tall caramel frapiccino. then, looking intently at the menu she paused. i asked "would you like anything else?" she, after a bit longer said, "yeah, do you guys have any other kinds of drinks?"

...

i, well, i wasn't sure what to do. "um... yes. there's..."
and she said, "no, thats good, i'll just get something somewhere else."
"okay."

then there was a lady who came in. she had a poney tail off the left side of her head. it was lightly curled. she had blue eyeshaddow on, eyelash extending mascara, muted but noticeable cherry red lipstick, and a cowgirlesk buttondown dress shirt. i wanted to ask "honey, did you miss the memo? the eighties ended a while ago." she ordered a vente half non-fat, half water, toffee nut latte.

as i handed off her drink to her she commented on how nice it was that this part of town was finally being developed. drawing new business to the area, it was nice to have a brand new starbucks so close rather than "having to drive all the way to..." and she named a location about five minutes away.
our 'brand new' starbucks has been there, next to a rather large hospital, for over five years.

i chap came in with his girlfriend. he had long hair, was missing at least four teeth, and walked with very deep caution due to an obvious gimp. he kinda reminded me of something betweek KISS, Juanes, and one of the zombies from Michael Jackson's Thriller. after ordering 5 drinks she realized she didn't have the cash, and had to run off and get it. while the drinks were being made, he watched and started up a conversation with the barista. she and he were chatting and he made mention of having just woken up from a coma. he'd been in a motorcycle accident and had been out for 3 or 4 months. he also mentioned, in his startled speach pattern, that this was his second motorcycle accident, and that he'd also been shot. he has a wheel chair he's supposed to be using, but left it at home.

reflecting on my day, i feel like of all the bright individuals i came in contact with, this last gentleman was the most cogent. he, at least, has come out of his coma.

todays discovery--

please read and attempt. it really is quite fun:

go to a mirror.
look at yourself in said mirror.
stop focusing 'past' the mirror, instead focus on the mirror at eye level.
(this step is much easier if mirror has a few specks on it to help focus on)
notice that your right eye's view of your left eye and your left eye's view of your right eye over lap.

repeat a few inches from mirror.

notice that you can then 'focus' on the 'third eye'... which is a morphing of the left and right eye

stare at 'third eye' for a long time.
see how 'natural' the entirety of your face looks with three eyes.

:) rejoice in the wonder of mind tricks.
[glasses are particularly cool looking while doing this.]
